Giving you my VERY FIRST blog post and a Training Tip for Thursday!! A mindset training tip to give you that edge…
And today’s training tip is on how to eliminate all fear, doubt, and worry from your game….because let’s be honest it holds A LOT of us back. Whether it’s not being able to reach your full potential, do the things you want to do on the court, or stepping out of that comfort zone….TRUST ME when I say you can eliminate it.
….ok ok I know what you’re thinking….you’ve heard this before…..I KNOW….I have too but there’s a difference between TALKING and SHOWING!!!
What do I mean?? Let’s get you to do an exercise now that will instantly help you not think of fear, worry, or doubt….
Now quickly because I don’t want to have you here all day. There are 3 things that can change your thinking and get you more confident instantly: physiology, focus, state.
First what I want you to do is take 30 breaths…..TRUST me don’t stare at the screen with that blank look and stand up…YES….stand up with your chest out and back straight…..changing your biochemistry can almost immediately change the way you feel. Stand up and I want 30 quick breaths in and out through your NOSE. Do that 3 times……..then come back!!!
……….ok did you do it?
PERFECT next we must change what you’re focusing on. Ever notice the more you focus on ..WHATS scaring you, making your uncomfortable, fearful, you tend to attract more of or give power to? Duh, because what you FOCUS on you BECOME. So we want to focus on WHAT YOU WANT TO BECOME not what you are afraid of not becoming, messing up, or failing.
So for 5 mins I want you to first change the way you think to prepare you for exercise #3. Take 5 minutes and think of 3 things that you are grateful for and I don’t mean just get 3 things and think of them for 5 seconds and then you’re done…NO…. Really take 1-2 mins on each thing….feel like you’re already there. Trust me it’s impossible to be mad, angry, scared, or fearful when you are GRATEFUL.
The very last thing I want you to do for 5-10 mins is close your eyes and picture yourself as the player you want to be. Imagine you already are that player….you’re that shooter, scorer, people FEAR YOU, you’re averaging 20 points a game. See yourself doing everything you’ve always dreamed of and play it over and over like you’re in the movie. Very important….don’t WATCH yourself…BE IN THE VISION.
Doing this every day for 90 days will eliminate any fear, doubt, or worry….this changed my life as an athlete. I’ve been there, working so hard but never being able to mentally make that jump and use what I’ve practiced on the court. This will get rid of that hurdle but you have to COMMIT and PROMISE ME YOULL DO THIS every morning when you wake up…..got it?
